I illustrated this piece from my favorite photograph of my paternal grandfather, taken circa 1980. The photo had always captivated me because of how it had managed to capture his indelible spirit and joy for life. He taught me how to drive an 8-gear tractor, showed me the universe in a dandelion, and gave me my very first drawing lessons. He was just like you'd imagine him to be. Only more so. And with a slight German accent.
